Justin Timberlake reveals struggles with Lyme disease in emotional post-tour message
Justin Timberlake ended his JT Live ’25 world tour on Wednesday with a heartfelt post on Instagram thanking fans, family, friends and crew for their support in the two-year stretch of performances and announcing that he had received a diagnosis for Lyme disease during the tour.
Calling it “the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, gruelling experience”, the singer said he loved being on tour, but had to power through “a massive amount of nerve pain” and was often “feeling crazy fatigue or sickness”. He called the disease “relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically”.
The lead singer of 90s sensation NSYNC was being called out by fans for lacklustre performances in his 50-city tour. He joins fellow stars Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and the supermodel sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid in fighting the disease. Timberlake said he was “trying to be more transparent about [his] struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted”. He said he’d “like to do [his] part to help others experiencing this disease too”.
The ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ singer has been in the news for the wrong reasons ever since his ex Britney Spears came out with allegations of abuse against him in her 2023 memoir; this was backed up by a New York Times documentary which aired interview clips of Timberlake where he indicated that he tried to ridicule his former girlfriend in a 2009 music video. He issued a public apology to Spears saying, “I know I failed”. He was also arrested near New York last year for driving while intoxicated.
Speaking about the difficult choices he had to make in the wake of his diagnosis, the singer said he had to make a call on whether to stop touring or continue; he said that we was glad to have chosen to tour as it let him “prove [his] his mental tenacity” and gave him “many special moments” with his fans.
Talking about future performances, Timberlake said “I honestly don’t know what my future is onstage but I’ll always cherish the run!”
